He is author of several books, including _From Mutual Aid to the Welfare State: Fraternal Societies and Social Services, 1890-1967_. We discussed the history of mutual-aid groups, fraternal organizations, and "lodge doctors." We discussed how they provided necessary services to those who needed them most.
